OpenAI is seeking at least $30 billion in new funding at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion, excluding the fresh capital, after postponing its initial public offering beyond 2026. The ChatGPT maker’s annualized revenue run rate exceeded $40 billion over the summer as it expanded its offerings with an always-on AI agent and a $500 subscription tier. Rival Anthropic is expected to go public in November at a potential valuation of more than $2 trillion, according to its I.P.O. prospectus.
OpenAI is seeking at least $30 billion in fresh funding at a valuation of around $1.4 trillion, excluding the new capital, after postponing its initial public offering for 2026, Bloomberg reported.
The proposed fundraising would provide additional capital ahead of an eventual listing.
The ChatGPT developer last raised $122 billion in March at a valuation of $852 billion, including that investment.
CEO Sam Altman said OpenAI would not go public this year, citing heightened artificial intelligence safety concerns and the challenges of adapting to increasingly capable systems.
Meanwhile, revenue growth has accelerated. OpenAI’s annualised revenue run rate exceeded $40 billion over the summer and has reportedly increased 70% since July, according to Bloomberg.
The company is also expanding its commercial offerings, unveiling an always-on AI agent called Dots and introducing a $500 subscription tier.
Rival AI giant Anthropic is expected to go public in November, with the company’s IPO prospectus outlining plans to spend $518 billion on cloud computing and infrastructure. Anthropic’s potential listing that could value the company at more than $2 trillion.
